DATES

Due to the shortness of the season and vast hunting area, the best results in almost inaccessible areas are best on foot. This allows our guides to take hunters into remote areas to harvest tremendous quality trophies.

Hunters need to be in fairly good shape to hunt, however we have had a number of hunters from 20 to 70 years of age who have amazed themselves. We feel that it depends more on the hunter's mental attitude as much as their physical ability. Hunters with the attitude of embracing the experience of this beautiful country usually have the best hunts. The few hunters will have the experience of learning how to judge rams, and a bonus opportunity of taking a ram in the 40" class. Most take on average an old 36" to 38" ram and hunters can embrace the beauty of these rams.

Mackenzie Mountain Outfitters operates well equipped permanent base camps within our area that are accessible by air. From these camps hunters and their guides are flown to spike camps. This allows us to suit individual fitness and preference levels. The more good physical conditioning you are able to do the more enjoyable the hunt will be

HOW TO GET HERE

We are proud Canada is still one of the safest and most accessible countries left to hunt. Direct flights are available from most cities to Edmonton, Calgary, Alberta or Yellowknife NWT. Canadian North Airlines fly to Norman Wells (population 882) or North Wright Airways fly from Yellowknife to Norman Wells. Hunters should arrive in Norman Wells the day prior to the hunt and book your departure the day after the hunt.  Hunters are met at the airport by a North Wright representative and will be flown directly to camp (weather permitting). Excess gear and hard gun cases should be left at the float plane dock and collected upon return the night before leaving Norman Wells. Room and meals in Norman Wells are the responsibility of our clients.

Passports are now required to enter and return from Canada, even if driving. Mackenzie Mountain Outfitters will forward Hunting Licence and Gun Registration Application information and forms a few months prior the hunt.

One third deposit is required to secure booking with a further third due by January 10 the year of the hunt. Personal cheques are acceptable for deposit payments. Balance is payable at commencement of hunt in a Certified Cheque, Money Order, Cash, or Traveller's Cheques. We do recommend purchasing trip cancellation and travel insurance.

  • TRANSPORTING TROPHIES

All field preparation of your trophies and salting and drying is included. Bring an extra duffle or leak proof bag for transporting your sheep horns and cap with you as extra luggage (NOT AS CARRY ON). There is an additional cost for excess handling to lifesize your moose or caribou. Shipping and exporting costs from Normal Wells are the responsibility of the hunter

  • GRATUITIES

We realize that it is an appreciation of services rendered, but we have noticed hunters typically tip 7-15%, which is greatly appreciated. Cash is preferable

  • MEAT

Meat will be removed from the field and transported back to base camp. Hunters often take a small amount (for transport in small bush aircraft) in their duffle, and the rest is donated to the appreciative local communities

  • WOUND POLICY

If an animal is wounded, every effort will be made to recover the trophy, but a wounded animal is considered a dead animal. Shooting range should not be above your comfort level with the majority of our shots around 100-300 yards

Firearms brought into Canada from the USA should be registered using a US 4457 form, in advance at any US airport with a US Customs & Border Protection office, and stamped for approval for verification for the serial number. A Canadian Non Resident Gun Registration form should also be completed, BUT NOT SIGNED, prior to your arrival in Canada.

  • TRAVEL TO NORMAN WELLS

Travel to Norman Wells mostly requires overnighting in Edmonton or Yellowknife both North and Southbound. It is suggested bookings with Canadian North Airlines or North Wright Airways be made through a travel agent, such as Sandy Farber - sandy@jubileeonline.ca, as it is difficult communicating from camp should any booking changes be necessary
